National scrapbooking weekend

I haven't been on here for ages - just don't seem to find the time, but as we've just had a very important day in the scrapbookers calendar I thought I'd let you all see what I got up to.I had two crops and 3 challenges over the weekend. The first challenge was a mono colour layout, using 3 papers/cards, all shades of the same colour and any embelishments similarly monoclour. I found a lovely pinky card which had cherubs on it which just fitted the spare photos I'd taken of my granddaughter with no front teeth, so I based it all on that - the tooth fairy on overtime. Thats still at the shop to be judged. Then at the same crop I went on to '5 reasons why I scrap' following a discussion and challenge on the docraft forum. This is all based on the Creative Memories, naural beauty papers and stickers and a border punch that I treated myself to The green flowers are a K and Co border.
The next day's challenge was based on the list of signd of addiction at www.simple-scrapbooking.com. I'm afraid theres no hope for me! Again I used Creative Memories papers and flowers, with some brads from my stash. The definitions are printed from a dictionary, and the quotes are from the website.

a flower card for a sad occasion

A Church friend has recently shown me how to make these flowers, and so I put together this card for the husband and family of my very brave friend who died last week. It was so humbling to visit her in the hospice. She had taken the decision to stop dialysis, and she was so matter of fact about her coming death, helping to plan her funeral and choosing the hymns and readings. Her husband gave a very moving eulogy, and at the hotel aftewards he gave all of her friends one of the white roses from the coffin. I have pressed mine under a huge pile of books, in order to put it on a layout about her. How long will I have to wait?

Very fittingly for the season, so soon after death came the signs of spring at last! At our crop on Saturday, the challenge was spring, and several made lovely cheerful layouts with the new papers. Not having taken spare photos, I didn't join in, but concentrated on my wedding anniversary album. It took me all morning to make the stems and leaves for my'friends are flowers' pages.

This morning we went to see the snowdrops and other spring flowers at Doddington Hall. It was a lovely bright but chilly day, but as we were moving it didn't matter. It has taken me all afternoon to edit all the pics!

Well I've been bitting about this week. My friend Laura gave me the instructions for these flowers so I thought I'd try them out at the church group. I made the large table centre as a trial, from spare bits, then the red glittery rose from blueberry papers. I sold that to a friend as a late valentine(male of course!). I thought I'd make MIL a bunch for Mother's day so I've been playing all week since with different papers and glues. I'm not so pleased with the later ones from soft papers, and they certainly didn't work with silicone glue - it went all slimy. I reckon narrow double sided is best with all papers and its a pity I cann't get glitter papers in spring colours, but there - she'll be happy! The advantage is that I can make the flowers while I'm watching the winter olympics.

I've been at a crop today - only two of us there. I nearly came home instead. It was annoying as I chose there instead of another general craft day. The good thing was that I hopefully made a couple of contacts for my own classes. I finished the wine circle album, and started at last on our 40th anniversary one. The problem is going to be choosing what goes in it. 40 years is a LOT of photographs!

I did my first class at an old people's home this afternoon. The person in charge wants to make an album of all the residents - each doing their own page, but they had obviously talked about it before and some had come with their life histories all typed out, others were just confused by the decisions of which papers to use, still others just wouldn't do anything but watch! How they're ever going to get a page for everyone I just don't know. Anyway, we had fun and some did get photos and do a layout, even if it wasn't about themselves.

I've also done some mini valentine cards, using the CM sweet heart maker. The suggestion was that they were done using the black and white papers on mulberry card, but I wanted to use up some bits instead of using a new pack, I also altered the size as I had envelopes to fit.(Just mean as usual!). Anyway I can now choose which I give him at the weekend.

Scrap book retreat

I returned from our fantabulous scrap book retreat at the Old Barn, Marston, this afternoon. It was as usual, well organised by Jess, with teaching and demo slots, competitions and of course plenty time for scrapping. There were those who ignored the timetable and continued until nearly midnight, and those insomniacs who were up at the crack of dawn to get a good start. The food was good, and the energetic exercised it off with swimming sessions or walks.

The one fly in the ointment was trouble caused by the guests at a 21st birthday party who do not know the meaning of consideration,but even that disturbance had its upside - I had two pages completed before 7am this morning! One being this entry for the docraft February challenge. One plain and two patterened papers, colours red, chocolate and blue, brads allowed but no ribbons, only one photo, and circles to be used. I reckon I got all that in!

I had done as much as I could to an album for the wine circle 40th anniversary on Friday and Saturday - just waiting now for some members comments to add. This is the page about the annual dinners, with the grape vine growing up the side. Today I did 4 pages of my own before lunch. My well prepared friend put nearly 50 pages together into 3 albums over the weekend, but she didn't do any journalling.

As by this time we had both run out of photographs we left soon after the lunch, (Reminder to self - more photos needed for the next one!) leaving some still working.

A funny day

Now I know I'm suffering with the Mother and Father of all colds, but odd things just seem to have been happening all day! I've been tidying up in the craft area, (not before time) and things disappear, and re-appear for no reason! I eventually found the Wishes and Dreams booklet under a pile of part made cards, but where have the photos gone that I printed last week, and how can I loose a double spread? Its not gone in any other album, and it isn't in the boxes. I wanted to finish that album and get it put away, ready to start a new one for the 2010 albums challenge.

Anyway, here is the double LO I did of our journey home from Cornwall after the New Year. We had an almost identical experience this weekend. We got snowed in, in Northumberland, but once we started travelling home the snow disappeared. T always says we're going to the frozen North when we go up there! The background is CM snowflake paper, and the road strips of grey cardstock cut with the wavy trimmer. The journalling is the white line down the centre of the road. The lettering is some I found in my stash that has dashed lines through it, but I had to cheat and alter some of the letters(can you tell which?)!

Now I'm off to bed - hopefully things will re appear tomorrow.

Christmas finally photographed

Its been a hectic couple of days at work trying to get some bottling done, but I finally got it finished. The Co-op collected theirs this morning and a bulk order for a private customer just needs its labels. I'm one box short and only had about a dozen bottles left, so cann't do any more until the orders arrive. Meanwhile I can get back in the winery to move others on. Roll on 1st August and RETIREMENT! I get back home with every joint aching until I've soaked in the bath, so I haven't felt like doing much crafting.

I have photographed the Christmas mini book, but I was mad with myself when I realised I'd left out taking our grandson to see Santa - a highlight of our Christmas as its the first time we've been allowed to take him out. Here are some of the pages - the whole thing will be on the docraft gallery soon.

Tonight I have been preparing and printing the photos I want to take to the scrap booking retreat next weekend. There's an album I must get done, but quite a few grandchildren pages as well. I need to prepare the demo I'm doing as well.

A busy scrapping day

Today was our first day session of the year, so I set the theme and challenge as Wishes and Dreams. Each member had a card from the Wishes and Dreams collection, and could make of it what they wished. - some did mini albums, others cards.

It took rather longer than I had expected but I think they had fun.

Sue H's was judged the best at the end of the morning, and she received pack of paper flowers from the black and white range.

After lunch we settled down to our own pages. I finished my Christmas mini album and started the double layout of our journey back from Cornwall.
